It seems that super long displays are getting a lot of attention recently. After LG’s 29EA93 (a 21:9) display came to the consumer market (and it’s update as influenced by Chris Heinonen of AnandTech), ASUS recently released their Designo MX299Q display for professional use. Now there is a new model, aimed at a more display enthusiast/regular consumer crowd. This is the PB298Q.
Fitting a 2560×1080 into 29″ is a pretty easy task with smartphones approaching 440+ ppi (1080p in 5″), however ASUS has seen a need in the market to give a lower cost solution. The PB298Q has a 0.8cm bezel and uses an AH-IPS panel with 178º viewing angles.
A longer panel is something that intrigues me, as I use a 23″ 1920x1080p for 24×7 use and two 27″ 2560x1440p monitors for my test beds. The PB298Q will have connectivity for DisplayPort, HDMI and a pair of dual link DVI ports, as well as 3W speakers and 300cd/m2 rated brightness.
No word on pricing or release date as of yet. Interestingly enough I have been considering getting 3x 2560x1440p panels for a 3×1 work setup. Perhaps a couple of these will do instead?
