Brothers in Gaming and Tech
When I hear the word laptop, ultimately this screams the word ‘portable’ to me. Something not wholly powerful but you can carry around. 17.3 inch screen laptops are thus a bit of a misnomer – they are too big to use while travelling, but perfectly suited for LAN events, work, or in a hotel room when on business. Even still, there has to be a limit in terms of power draw and applicable grunt to such a system, right? Eurocom doesn’t think so.
Eurocom’s X7 system is designed to be an absolute beast, as long as you are willing to spend the money needed to get it. Let’s start at the top:
The most interesting configs start with the most poignant parts: a 4 kg laptop with a 17.3″ 1080p screen that can use an i7-4930MX, up to 64 GB RAM (in reality only 32GB because 16GB sticks do not exist for laptops), up to two GTX 780s (or HD 8970s) in SLI and space for five storage devices (two mSATA, two 2.5″, one 2.5″ shared with ODD). This is on top of two cameras, Sound Blaster audio, a Thunderbolt port, HDMI, four USB 3.0, an illuminated keyboard, a fingerprint scanner, and a BluRay-RW at the cost of one of those storage bays. The standard model only has an 8-cell battery available, and the power supply is rated for 300W.
I went to the configuration page and put all of this in, including a 120 Hz panel, 802.11ac WiFi, Windows 8 Professional 64-bit, and maximum storage.
Total: £3768. Wow. Take a look at the fan arrangements, as this thing is going to get toasty, even when it’s 2.19 inches tall:
