Sony Vaio Pro extends CPU Lineup

As I am always on the look out for a laptop with a large resolution screen and oodles of battery, the Sony Vaio Pro is one I keep coming back to, because of its 13″ 1080p with 18+ hrs life (with battery slice), all for 1.4 kg.  On looking at the lineup today, I see Sony have extended the CPU range to the following:

VP

If memory serves me correctly, both the i3-4010U and i7-4650U processors are new to the Vaio Pro.  They are all 15W parts, meaning the battery life from all should be the same, but the specifications are a little different:

i3-4010U: Dual core with Hyperthreading, 1.7 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache, HD 4400 IGP (1000 MHz Turbo)
i5-4200U: DC w/HT, 1.6 GHz turbo to 2.6 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache, HD 4400 IGP (1000 MHz Turbo)
i5-4500U, DC w/HT, 1.8 GHz turbo to 3.0 GHz, 4MB L3 Cache, HD 4400 IGP (1100 MHz Turbo)
i5-4650U, DC w/HT, 1.7 GHz turbo to 3.3 GHz, 4MB L3 Cache, HD 5000 IGP (1100 MHz Turbo), TSX

So with the low end CPU you lose a high turbo mode, and with the high end CPU you gain a better IGP.  The price jump to the 4650U seems quite large, even with Sony discount in there, making the CPU are large portion of the overall price.  I for one would prefer to see a 2560×1440 panel on the device, or an option to downgrade to Windows 7.

I’m still debating whether to get a Vaio Pro.  There are no 1440p laptops in the UK right now (or none that offer >5hrs battery that do not weigh a ton), and I feel that any Silvermont substitute just won’t cut it.  There is Broadwell on the horizon, so I suppose my 4kg Core2Duo might hold out until then.
